OEM Steel Fabrication and Contract Manufacturing Services
Manufacturers across industries – from heavy equipment and defense to agriculture and transportation – rely on outside steel processing partners when their production demands outpace in-house cutting capacity, when precision requirements exceed their equipment capabilities, or when offloading material management makes more operational sense than maintaining raw steel inventory. Triad Metals provides OEM steel fabrication and contract manufacturing services built on an integrated platform: 75,000+ tons of steel inventory, advanced CNC processing equipment including one of the largest tube laser operations in the independent service center sector, and a kitting and logistics operation designed specifically for production-line delivery.
Processing Capabilities
BLM LT8 Tube Lasers - Up to 8-Inch Diameter Capacity
Triad Metals’ BLM LT8 tube lasers are the workhorse of our OEM fabrication operation, processing round, square, rectangular, and structural tube and pipe up to 8 inches in diameter. The LT8s produce precision tube cuts, coped joints, mitered ends, notches, slots, holes, and complex profile geometries in a single automated operation – eliminating the multiple handling steps, layout marking, and manual cutting that conventional tube fabrication requires.
For OEM manufacturers, tube laser parts come off the machine ready to weld. Fit-up is faster, assembly tolerances are tighter, and weld quality improves because joints are cut to exact geometry rather than hand-fitted. With two LT8 machines in operation, Triad Metals maintains the throughput capacity to support high-volume OEM production runs without extended lead times.
BLM LT24 Tube Laser — Up to 24-Inch Diameter Capacity
Triad Metals’ BLM LT24 is the newest addition to our OEM fabrication operation, processing round, square, rectangular, and structural tube and pipe up to 24 inches in diameter. The LT24 produces precision tube cuts, coped joints, mitered ends, notches, slots, holes, and complex profile geometries in a single automated operation. The 24-inch capacity positions Triad Metals to serve heavy equipment, energy, defense, and trailer OEMs that work with large-diameter tube and pipe – a capability offered through our laser cutting services that most service centers and job shops cannot match.
Plate Processing - Plasma and Saw Cutting
Triad Metals operates CNC plasma cutting systems and band saws for steel plate processing. These systems produce cut plate products – base plates, gusset plates, wear plates, cover plates, brackets, flanges, and custom shapes. Our plasma systems can also cut tube, providing additional flexibility for tube processing applications beyond the BLM laser platform.
Precision plasma cutting provides clean-edge parts with tight dimensional tolerances for applications requiring minimal secondary finishing. Band saw cutting produces precision-length structural members – beams, channels, angles, HSS, bar stock – cut square or at specified angles.
Drilling, Tapping, and Secondary Processing
Our drilling and tapping capabilities produce bolt hole patterns, anchor bolt holes, and threaded connections in plate, structural shapes, and processed components. Combined with beveling services for weld preparation, these secondary operations mean parts leave our facility ready for assembly.
Kitting Program - Complete Assembly Packages Delivered to Your Line
Triad Metals’ kitting program packages all steel components for a specific assembly or sub-assembly – pre-cut, processed, labeled, and grouped together – for delivery directly to the OEM’s production line. Each kit is built to the manufacturer’s bill of materials, with every component accounted for and organized for the production team.
Kitting eliminates three costly activities from the OEM’s operation: raw material inventory management (we carry the inventory), in-house cutting operations (we do the processing), and material staging and internal logistics (we deliver production-ready kits to your line). The result is faster throughput, less floor space consumed by raw material, and fewer production stoppages caused by missing or incorrectly cut parts.
Our kitting program scales from small-batch prototype builds to full production volume, supporting manufacturers through new product introduction, seasonal demand ramps, and steady-state production across multiple product lines.
Just-in-Time (JIT) Delivery and Supply Chain Integration
Triad Metals structures steel supply around manufacturer production schedules, not around steel distributor convenience. Our JIT delivery model provides processed steel and kitted component packages on the OEM’s release schedule – daily, weekly, biweekly, or production-triggered – so material arrives when the build schedule needs it.
With six locations (Pittsburgh, Columbia City, Petersburg, Philadelphia, Birmingham, and Oshawa) and an in-house truck fleet managed through our logistical services, we maintain the geographic coverage and logistics control to support JIT delivery commitments reliably. For manufacturers with multiple production facilities, our multi-location network can serve several plants from the closest regional hub.
OEM Industries Served
Triad Metals’ OEM fabrication and contract manufacturing capabilities serve manufacturers across diverse sectors. In heavy equipment and construction machinery, we provide AR plate wear parts, structural frame components, and tube laser assemblies for excavator, crane, and loader manufacturers. Agricultural equipment manufacturers use our kitting and JIT programs to manage implement production through seasonal demand cycles. Trailer manufacturers rely on our HSS tubing, structural shapes, and tube laser cutting for frame assemblies, crossmembers, and structural connections. Energy equipment manufacturers source processed plate and structural components for skids, modules, and equipment frames.
Quality, Traceability, and Documentation
Every OEM component produced by Triad Metals is backed by full material traceability from mill source through processing and delivery. Mill test reports (MTRs), material certifications, and heat-lot tracking are maintained throughout the supply chain and provided with every shipment.
Triad Metals holds a Dun & Bradstreet credit rating of 5A1–, reflecting the financial stability that OEM procurement teams evaluate when qualifying long-term steel supply partners. Our 37+ year operating history as an independent, privately held company – without private equity ownership – provides supply chain continuity that manufacturer procurement teams value.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is OEM steel fabrication?
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) steel fabrication is the process of cutting, processing, and preparing steel components to an equipment manufacturer’s engineering drawings for direct integration into their production assembly line. Instead of the OEM maintaining in-house steel cutting equipment and raw material inventory, an OEM fabrication partner like Triad Metals handles material sourcing, precision cutting (tube laser, plasma, saw), drilling, tapping, beveling, and delivery – providing production-ready parts that go straight into the assembly process.
What is the largest tube diameter Triad Metals can laser cut?
Triad Metals operates two BLM LT8 tube lasers (up to 8-inch diameter) and one BLM LT24 tube laser (up to 24-inch diameter). Our plasma cutting systems can also process tube. This combined capability is one of the largest tube processing operations among independent steel service centers in the U.S., enabling precision fabrication of tube components across a full range of diameters for heavy equipment, energy, defense, and trailer manufacturing applications.
What is steel kitting and how does it work?
Steel kitting is a supply chain service where all steel components required for a specific assembly or sub-assembly are pre-cut, processed, labeled, and packaged together into a single kit. The kit is built to the manufacturer’s bill of materials and delivered directly to the production line. Kitting eliminates the OEM’s need to manage raw steel inventory, operate in-house cutting equipment, and stage materials internally. Triad Metals’ kitting program supports prototype through full production volume and delivers on JIT schedules – daily, weekly, biweekly, or production-triggered.
Does Triad Metals offer just-in-time delivery for OEM manufacturers?
Yes. Triad Metals structures delivery around the manufacturer’s production schedule, providing processed steel and kitted components on a JIT basis – daily, weekly, biweekly, or triggered by the OEM’s production releases. With six locations and an in-house truck fleet, we maintain the logistics control to support JIT commitments reliably.
